A lot has been going on since the last post. Prayers and discussions with the rest of the team.

The news is that we are not giving up. 2010 is a new year and we believe that God wants us to stir the ambers and create a widespread fire for Him.

HEAT Worship House is restarting but in a different environment.

First Sunday of the month will be a church service at the pastor's place.

Third Friday of the month will be a different event in Vanier.

We continue to pray and seek God. We hope to see more people coming on board with us.

Here's something we have been told this week... I thought it was an interesting story.

My sister-in-law was talking with other people about Ottawa. They said that there was only a few Southern Baptist churches in Ottawa and one was a little different, it's called HEAT. She chuckled and told them that was her brother's church.

... we are setting up for QUENCH today. Lots of things to do besides setting the speakers/projectors/sound equipment... and so on.

Yours truly will go help this time with the power of my lungs and fingers!!! Wondering what I'm talking about? Can't tell you. It a surprise. But let's just says there are about 2000 of them. Hoping we can do them all but again - we shall see.

Wondergin what's happening?

Since January, we had 2 raves and regular services. We are currently in the midst to incorporate more multimedia that will speak more to the younger generation. We are currently meeting twice a week with a service on June 13th, a rave on the 20th and another service on the 27th of June.

Like I said we had two raves since January and another one coming soon.

The first rave was White As Snow and the decor was very... well white. We had scalfolders set up with lights from behind some sort of white curtains. Many came and it was a great evening.

The second rave was Creation. A different crowd came that evening and the music was good thanks to the various DJs.

The rave coming up will be called Quench! We have a special visitor from California coming to spin that night. DJ Faith is looking forward to experience a night with you. Potluck for the Spiritual Groups at OttawaU

Earlier this week, pastor Rob got an invitation to go to a potluck organized by the spiritual services of Ottawa U. We had advertized in the Fulcrum, a university paper, and it seems to bring it's fruits. Last week, we got contacted by CBC radio and Rob went for an interview that will possibly pass this Friday morning and now this invitation.

The goal of the potluck is to give an opportunity for different clubs to introduce themselves to the students and to get to know what the other clubs are doing on campus.

So pastor Rob is wearing his H.E.A.T. t-shirt and is going down to Ottawa U as I am writing this to participate to an interesting potluck.

... but yesterday afternoon I went to pick up the banner we had ordered.

The first guy we approached and dealt with for more than three weeks just wanted to get paid under the table. Oh at first he asked for cash... Not an option we told him. Then he said he would made an invoice but wanted the cheque made to his name. What??? So we told him to forget about the banner.

That was Wednesday. Pastor Rob called around to see if it could be done for Saturday. Found a wonderful little place in the city who was quite busy because of the elections in Canada but said they would do it.

I picked it up yesterday. It looks FABULOUS! I can't wait to see the reaction of the team... They don't know we have it. We were not sure we could find a place who would do it in such short notice. We are quite satisfied with this company. I even met the owner and she is very nice...

I'll take a picture tonight for a future posting.

Goodbye Power Plant

Yesterday was the last day of Power Plant and the team went downtown to evangelize a bit - something that was hard to do while doing the door-to-door... We have almost distributed ALL the bibles (only about 150 left).

We got interesting contacts - one from a DJ of techno music and another one from a guy who works at the radio on the University of Ottawa (who is coming to check out the church on Saturday!). We also got contacted by the English paper of the University - The Fulcrum and they have sent us some advertisement prices for the Frosh week and on... Funny to think I was hesitating to put some there but I did with the thought they would probably want to interview us... Maybe they would some day - after the Rave on September 13.

But a radio interview might be done which is very encouraging... We got lots of stories and we had a great time with the team from Toronto. Once again thanks to Carlos and his wife Suzie, Johny, William, Manuela and Diana. We hope to see you again someday. Oh and thanks to J. She was a great help during two days. Our son Alexandre went too and wants to do it again eventually. Bless you all!

This morning when the administrative person from the church where we rent the basement from came in, there was one of the bible we were giving away the day before with a Koran.

So now Pastor Rob owns a Koran. Something he always wanted to have just to check it out... And we gave away that bible again today!

More people blessed by our gift. About 1000 bibles distributed so far. Super cool!

The team did great again today.

J asked some question to pastor Rob and he answered her. He told her that ultimately the decision of becoming a christian belongs to her and that he hoped that she will make that decision. We gave her a new testament yesterday evening - she didn't own one. Pray for her...

Oh! And when they got back tonight - she asked her aunt and uncle if she could come back tomorrow. Isn't it cool?

Power Plant going on!

Hi everyone,

Power Plant is in town and we have a team of 6 people from Toronto. Many thanks to Carlos, Suzie, Diana, Johny, Manuela and Willis. To top it off we got a young 13 year old gal who joined us yesterday. She is the niece of the lady who babysat my own kids so I could participate on day of blitz - let's call her J.

The afternoon started good and we were going door to door in the neighborhood where we have church. We talked to some people - some surprised by the bibles giveaway and others not interested whatsoever. One guy even said to me "A church and tecno music - God help us..." I think he couldn't believe it and couldn't see how it would work. So I told him it worked and people needed different ways of worshipping God. He didn't seemed convinced. Oh well.

However, I personally went to talk to 4 young adults and asked them if any of them knew techno music or electronic music. Turns out that one of the girls did. So I gave her an invitation for the Rave on September 13th. She was quite excited about it. Ended up giving a card to the four of them... Sweet!

I even prayed for a young woman who was looking for an appartment. I asked God to give her something that would be beyond her own expectations. She laughed at this but I would be curious to see if she comes back to H.E.A.T. one Saturday to tell me about her new appartment.

Others had similar experiences. J - the young 13 year old who came - was amazing. When we got back home she immediately asked her aunt if she could come back again the next day. She is going this afternoon with the rest of the group and my 7th year old son. He is looking forward to it and is quite excited about it too! It's so nice to see the younger generation being excited about God. It's so refreshing.

Day 2 is today. They will blitz the area some more and try to talk to more people.

Out of the 2000 bibles we had to give away, there is already about 650 gone.

Please continue to pray for the neighbourhood and the power plant crew!

This week, we have the visit of 6 people who came from Toronto to participate to Power Plant a ministry to help churches to reach out to the area where they are located.

So our mission is to distribute over 2000 bibles and many cards to invite the neighborhood where we are to come and CHECK US OUT!

On September 13 there will be a rave and everyone is invited. More details to come as per where to get the tickets and so on.

On September 20 we will have our grand opening evening and are hoping that the people around us and at the University of Ottawa will come.

So this week we are reaching out and the teams will try to speak to whoever will be in the street.

Club Worship and being on the road...

What’s happening with H.E.A.T.? Well, part of the group drove down recently to visit Club Worship in Reading, PA on June 13th. Earlier during the week, Rob and I met with Joshua and Jeff and talked about Club Worship and H.E.A.T. and techno music for worship. We had a great evening and Jeff had brought some meadow tea – a specialty in PA – which tasted wonderful… Rob went to the night in town but before hand we drove to see where they were and saw the place. I was glad I was able to see where they meet and what the place looked like. It was interesting…

We are still on the road with the H.E.A.T. mobile. As we drove in various cities in the States, we got lots of people checking out the truck. However, we had three interesting encounter with people about the H.E.A.T. mobile and the slogan on it.

#1 We are in York, Maine. A guy comes to us from the other side of the street to ask us about H.E.A.T. – turns out he is a pastor from a church in Salem, Massachusetts. He loves the truck and told us he would pray for us. Rob gave him a card before he left.

#2 In Scarborough, Maine… As we park our trailer for the night, a guy comes to us and says “ techno music and Jesus – this is the most interesting slogan I’ve seen with the name of Jesus in it…” So we tell him about our techno church and he was reacting to this idea of a techno church. He reminded me of the people Dan Kimball talks about in his book “They love Jesus but not the church”.

#3 Near Saint John, New Brunswick. We have finished setting up the trailer and a couple with a child approach us. They are wondering if we are a church. Yes we are and Rob says he is the pastor. Turns out, the guy is a pastor too and is interested about it. His wife asked us what we need prayer for and we told them about our official launch in September.

On July 1-2 we will be in PEI for the CCSB convention and again the H.E.A.T. mobile will be there. We are schedule to be announced as a church plant. So pray for us as we connect with the CCSB staff and other churches and share our vision.

What is happening so far?

WoW! The last few weeks many things happened. So far we had 4 services and we had fun doing them. The last two, there were less people... but that's okay.

What's the feeling of the services? There is a kid's service at 6pm where we teach the children about something about Jesus. We also dance on the music. We discovered a great way to learn scripture for the kids (and adults) with the God Rocks! DVDs. The team love them... After the kid's service we have a family fun time. So far we did a game involving pop can, the musical chair game, drawing what Jesus meant for us, and Hullaballo from Cranium.

At 7pm this is the adult service and the children goes in a kid's room. So more music, speakers, music again. We had a communion service when one guy was leaving Ottawa to return to Germany. We prayed over him to stay strong in his faith and to impact his country. I sure hope that he is doing well. Sebastian if you read this, give us some news...

Last night, James shared about his trip to Guatemala and what happened there. And Rick Lamothe share about what he learned at a church planting conference in Virginia. WoW! It was a God moment for sure because it talked to us in various ways.

We are learning not to be discourage - after all we didn't do advertizing yet. But we are planning for a H.E.A.T. rave in September with advertizing in the neighbourhood and the Ottawa U. We are planning to start weekly in September after the rave event.

God is blessing us in various ways. Upcoming trip to Pennsylvania to see Club Worship. They are refocusing as it has not being easy for them as well... We will try to encourage each other. Rob and I and the kids will be in PEI for the CCSB Convention with the H.E.A.T. mobile. We can't wait to be there. The H.E.A.T. mobile will drive a lot this coming June - from Ottawa to PA, all around PA, driving to Massachussetts and Boston, Maine, all over the coast to Saint John, NB and then up to PEI. And obviously we have to come back so we will take another route to drive back. Like it or not, it is advertizing.... You should see the reactions we have from getting a picture from the truck with the cellphone on a red light to getting honk at to get the window down to ask questions about H.E.A.T. ! The latest one would be a group of teenagers getting out of their bus in front of our house and asking me questions. Rob always says that this kind of thing only happens to me - but hey I'm the one driving around with the truck all the time... so I am not surprised...

H.E.A.T. Mobile

As promised here's some pictures of the new look of our vehicule. The first night, we went for a drive with the kids and we got interesting looks from mostly young adults. Pastor Rick of Sequoia Community Church was able to see it before going on a 10 days trip in the States. It was fun to see him all excited about it...

Now Rob and him are talking about doing the same thing on our trailer...

Decking out the truck...

Today is the day! Rob left this morning with the truck to drop it off for the decking. I can't hardly wait to see the result. I sure hope it will look good. And I can't wait to see the team's reactions...

At first we called someone who had been referred to us... Price tag: more than 1200$ CDN. Mmmm! We thought it was good but Pastor Rick from Sequoia Community Church thought it was a bit pricey. So we called around and asked for quotes. Well believe it or not the price range was from 500$ to 2600$. Unbelievable. Why such a big range for all the same stuff? It's incredible.

So we settle with a comapny close to home which is pretty reasonnable but not too pricey. The guy was great so far! We will see the results tonight... I promise to take pictures and to post them here and on facebook!

H.E.A.T. Worship House Commission

Yesterday, March 30th, H.E.A.T. Worship House was commissioned by Sequoia Community Church. Our services will start on April 12th - every two weeks for three months and then weekly.

Sequoia blessed us by putting techno music at the beginning and the end of the service. Rob spoke about the history of H.E.A.T. - from 15 years ago until now... Many liked to know all the background story of H.E.A.T.!

Our H.E.A.T. team was with us. How bless we are to have this group of people with us! Yes we are leaving a family behind but already we have another one. Personally, I will miss my friends at Sequoia - not seeing them every week and I sure hope that we will stay in contact somehow.

As I was listening to my husband - now Pastor Rob - speaking yesterday I realized that our timing is definitively not God's timing. 15 years it took for H.E.A.T. to start. 15 years of ups and downs for my husband - not feeling he was productive enough for the Lord. Me? Well at first I thought this was Rob's dream, Rob's calling... Took me a while to appreciate the music... Between you and me, it is not my style but slowly and surely God worked in my heart and my taste of music is expanding! I love the group we are working with - Rachelle, Tyler, Candace, Anne, James... I wouldn't want trade it for anything in the world.

After the service, Pastor Rick asked the H.E.A.T. team to come forward as well as the base coach team leaders and they prayed with us to send us our way.

Also yesterday evening, Dan Woods came over to our house to explain how the sounds equipment is working - more specifically the sound mixer.

Next week-end, the team is going to an healing ministry and learn how to pray for healing. Then the week-end after that - our first service... Really it's just around the corner. Exciting!

NOTE: For illustrating the birth of H.E.A.T. we asked pastor Rick to become pregnant and give birth on stage. He willingly did it! So he had a pillow dressed in the H.E.A.T. t-shirt under his clothing and gave birth to the new church. It was great and I think the congregation love it. A friend took pictures of the commission and I soon as we have them I will post them.

40 days...

40 days until the launch. It was suggested yesterday during our meeting that each person in the group fast something during these 40 days.

We loved the idea and everyone will decide on their own what they will fast. After all it is between the Lord and them. I know what I will fast and believe me it will be hard with Easter being around the corner! But I can do it. Philippians 4:13 says "We can do all things through Him who gives us strength." So I will be strong... but I will miss the chocolate! *grin*

Also, Tyler strongly suggested that every person in the group have 2-3 accountability partners - including one from outside of H.E.A.T. . Rob and I agreed with this. It is important for leaders to be accountable. Everyone has about 2 weeks to think about who they will ask to be their accountability partners.

The countdown has started indeed.

We are launching on April 12th, 2008. We got the venue at a reasonable price and it is close to the Ottawa U as well as downtown.

We are very excited about the whole thing. Even the kids are asking when they will go to the new church.

We had an amazing time last night praying and discussing about the various things touching H.E.A.T. in the months to come.

We are also planning a trip to Pennsylvania to check out Club Worship. Everyone is excited about this as well.

Two of our members will be on mission during the summer at Manitoulin Island. So we will miss them greatly but mission is in our hearts and we are encouraging them and praying for them.

Last time, I share about what happened with the whole venue story. Well I didn't know that Tyler had shared some scriptures with Rob about a week before their visit. God had spoken to him and gave him two scriptures about H.E.A.T. ! The first one is Genesis 12 where God tells Abraham to leave his country, his relatives, his father's house, and go to the land that He will show him. The second scripture is Genesis 28 where Jacob goes back to the land where Abraham came from. Then they talked about the fact that it was interesting that God is bringing H.E.A.T. back to where it got prayed for more than 15 years ago and where the first team had been formed.

Well let me tell you that the story do not finish there... The day they went to visit the facility, they stayed for the service. That day, the Reverend spoke about Genesis 12 and Genesis 28! What are the odds? It was a confirmation from God to us that we needed to be there!

So now we are counting the days. Praying that our sound equipment as well as the laptop will arrive sooner than what is planned. The kids are excited and they have a calendar on which they can cross-out the days... It's nice to see them looking forward to start a new adventure. Praise God for their hearts and for their enthusiasm!

What's happening...

We meet weekly for discussing as well as prayer. During the week, a lot can happen... This is the case since two weeks (there's wasn't a meeting last Sunday).

So a couple of weeks ago, we got a call from a contact during our meeting to let us know of a potential venue to meet and have our services. We didn't thought twice about it. Rob thought about calling them the following week... a couple of days later that's when the light bulb lit... This place was were HEAT was originally prayed for and where the team back then was formed (that's more than 12 years ago....) Anyhow, it was an interesting potential place since it is downtown and close to the University of Ottawa.

So we prayed about it, we called them, Rob met with the Reverend who brought up the potential rent to his board... They accepted. Rob went to see the place this morning with Tyler to remember how the basement is.

We will more than likely start meeting once a month and then twice a month and then every week. It's exciting!!! This are starting to move.

On another note, we have ordered our sounds equipment as well as the HEAT laptop. We are waiting patiently (yeah right!) for them to arrive.

Tonight, we will tell our team members about the good news, no more like EXCITING news!

How the sanctuary would look like...

Okay gang! First blog entry here... Actually while the supper was going on last night, I had some sort of vision but I wanted to talked about it with Rob before sharing with all of you...

So here's what I saw... Round tables with chairs where people would sit to listen to the sermon. For a long time now, Rob and I were trying to figure out how we would organize the sanctuary because of our special way of doing church ie dancing. But last night, it was clear to me not to have only chairs and Rob speaking in front of everyone... I felt more comfortable with the table idea when it came in my head. I could see bibles and even journals on the tables as well as pens. Another thing came to mind... having chalkboard tables with chalks in nice cups for people to scribble.

Then later that evening, while the prayer time, I had to go upstairs to pump... I picked up the book "They like Jesus but not the church" from Dan Kimball and read the section Preacher focused or Jesus focused. Here's what it says:

"Think of how you set up leaders in your church worship gatherings. Generally churches put them in the spotlight in the central focal point of the room, which is understandable, since people need to see leaders when they are speaking. In recent years, however, especially in larger churches, we have added the video projection of the preacher on large screens. When we do that, we just need to be all the more careful that we balance that by constantly communicating that the church is not about the communication skills of charisma of the preacher but about Jesus.

Even the placement of the pulpit demonstrates our values. Prior to the Reformation, people didn't have access to the Scriptures, and corrupt church leaders misused the Scriptures for their advantage. To counteract that, Reformation preachers began placing their pulpits way up high with pulpit structures around them in order to stress the authority of the Scriptures. It made sense then because of what was occuring culturally. But in today's emerging culture, the high pulpit of the Reformation only emphasizes that the preacher is the focus. You can't even see a Bible usually, and the elevation of the preacher reinforces the hierarchical, man-made feel of organized religion. "

Then the author goes on to say that in his church they have a BIG cross on the stage and that the preacher will stand below it to speak to the congregation. I liked that idea of having a wooden cross somewhere in the room.

The next section was about vintage home church or large-scale theater church. In that section, Dan Kimball goes on to say that he visited a church where the pews had been taken out and instead there was couches and comfortable chairs. When you walked in that church, the setting shouted community and family instead of controlled seating and organized religion.

As soon as I read this I thought "That's it!". So before we went to bed, Rob and I talked about what came to me and what I read. We had being debating for a long time on how the sanctuary would look like. Rob had even these ideas of chairs screwed on a platform that would come down at the time of the preaching but personally I thought this was a bit too much... Finally, we were both comfortable with this way of doing it. A dance floor at one section of a big room and at the other side a section with couches and tables and chairs where people can sit, follow the sermon, take notes, etc. And a small stage maybe, a wooden cross for sure, and even some stations of chalks, beads, crayons and so on for the creativity.

It's funny how God speaks to us sometimes... For me it was special last night because I am going through a tough time these days and somehow God spoke to me through some of you to lift up my spirit... You have no idea how much your words meant to me! Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything like this and I thank those of you who let God used you to speak to me. The only thing I can say is WoW! and thanks.
